Making your own tuna fillet burgers is a very simple recipe. The time it takes to prepare this recipe is about 1 hour. You will see that it is a healthy and tasty recipe that will surprise everyone in the family.

Tuna fillet burgers

Tuna is one of the so-called ‘blue’ fish species. It has dark, oily skin and an intense aroma. It contains about 200 calories and 23 grams of protein per 100 grams. Specialists recommend its use because it provides many nutrients such as:

  • a significant amount of omega-3 fatty acids.
  • B vitamins.
  • minerals such as phosphorus, iron and magnesium.

Ingredients

  • 400 grams of fresh tuna without bones
  • 2 eggs
  • Breadcrumbs (amount as needed)
  • Milk (amount as needed)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Ginger and/or parsley (optional)

Preparation method

  • Make sure there are no bones left in the tuna. If this is still the case, remove the bones with tweezers.
  • Cut the tuna fillet into 1 cm cubes. Add the salt and mix so that all tuna cubes are salted evenly. Then set it aside.
  • Break the eggs into a bowl. Add the ginger and parsley (this step is optional) and stir to combine.
  • Then soak the breadcrumbs in the milk. This way the tuna fillet burgers get a smooth texture. We recommend starting with a few scoops of breadcrumbs and a splash of milk. They should be moist, but not dripping.
  • Pour the soaked breadcrumbs into the bowl of eggs. Then mix this well together.
  • Add the tuna fillet cubes and mix with your hands until you have a smooth dough.
  • If it’s too runny, add more breadcrumbs. Add some milk if it is too dry. Add more soaked breadcrumbs to make it more elastic.
  • Leave the mixture in the fridge for at least half an hour.
  • When it’s cold, you can make your tuna fillet burgers. To do this, take some of the mixture with a spoon, make a ball and then flatten it with your hands. Shape the burger with your fingers.
  • Finally, grill your burgers over medium heat until cooked through.
  • Serve with whatever you like.

Tuna fillet burgers with garlic

Tuna

Another option to make these burgers is with Atlantic tuna and garlic. This recipe is especially suitable for people who like the taste of garlic.

Ingredients

  • 300 grams tuna fillets (Atlantic Blue Fin)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Breadcrumbs (amount as needed)
  • The juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Ginger (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste)

Preparation

  • Peel the skin off the tuna if you didn’t buy it clean. Also make sure all the bones are out.
  • Then cut the tuna fillet into small cubes. The smaller the blocks, the better. Add salt and pepper to taste and set aside.
  • Peel the garlic. The easiest way to do this is to put it in a jar with a lid and then shake it. The peel will come off soon! Then finely chop the garlic.
  • Then mix the tuna cubes with the chopped garlic.
  • Add the eggs, ginger and lemon juice. Mix this well.
  • Add the breadcrumbs in batches until you get a firm but kneadable dough.
  • Let the dough rest in the fridge for at least 40 minutes. This way the flavors will mix well.
  • Remove the dough from the fridge and prepare the burgers as we explained in the previous recipe.
  • Then grill them until the burgers are well cooked and serve with salad or bread.

Some options for variation

Some options for variation

Making your own hamburger bun, adding new vegetables or serving with a poached egg are some ideas you can use to give your dish a different touch.

While we recommend using fresh tuna, you can also use frozen or canned tuna. In the latter case, it is important to drain well to remove excess water or oil.

  • You can serve the tuna fillet burgers separately or accompanied by potatoes, salad or grilled vegetables.
  • Consider making homemade bread, as it pairs well with these burgers.
  • This dish also goes great with a poached egg, tomato and lettuce. You can add any vegetables you want to get more vitamins and minerals.
  • If you have time, prepare caramelized onions as they will add a different, delicious flavor to the dish.
