Why do we neglect the health of our eyes? When we think about exercise, we never think about training our eyesight. However, it could bring us many benefits.

There are several eye health exercises that can help you improve your well-being. Do your eyes tend to get red? Do they sometimes hurt? Do you feel tension in your eyes? People who work behind the computer probably suffer from these kinds of problems. 

For this reason, if we do not want to damage our eyesight and we want to enjoy good eye health, we will have to do exercises for the eyes. They are simple exercises that you can do anywhere. They offer many benefits if you include them in your routine.

Today we are going to talk about 4 exercises for eye health that will help you immensely. Although there are only 4 of them, you will discover several variations of these exercises to make them even more complete.

1. Blink

Blinking is good for eye health

If you work at a computer, blinking is a very important exercise for the health of your eyes. You’re probably thinking “But I’m already blinking!”  Yes, that’s true, but not often enough.

Working behind the computer requires a lot of concentration. This often causes us not to blink for a long time, which would not happen in other circumstances. What can we do about this?

  • Blink quickly: When you’re not working, blink your eyes in quick succession. This will moisturize your eyes naturally. This way you don’t have to use eye drops.
  • Blink slowly: This exercise helps to relieve tension in the eyes. Close the eyes and keep them closed for a few seconds. Then open them and repeat.

2. Put pressure on the eyes

Remember when you were little and when you pressed your eyes you saw stars? Well, it turns out that applying light pressure to your eyes can do a lot of good. It actually helps to reduce tension on the eye muscles and relaxes vision after an intense day at work, where your eyesight has worked hard.

How can we do these exercises? Here are two ways to make our eyes feel significantly relieved and noticeably less tense.

  • Press your palms onto your eyes. Place your palms over your eyes with gentle pressure. It is advisable to warm them first by rubbing them together and then sit with your palms over your eyes for up to 2 minutes.
  • Press with your fingers. Just like when you were little, put your fingers over your eyes and then press gently for a few seconds. Then relax and do it again.

3. Move your eyes

Exercise is another very effective exercise for eye health. Although the eyes are always moving, we have to do it a certain way if we want to achieve specific results.

In this way tension can be released from the eyes and our vision can relax.

  • Up and down. This is the first movement and consists of looking up and then looking down. You will find that this is a little difficult, so do it slowly.
  • From left to right. the second exercise is similar but involves looking to the left and then to the right.

You may feel some pressure as you do these exercises, as if you are moving your eyes with force. But this is good. Tension is thus released and when you are done with this exercise you will feel a great sense of well-being in your eyes.

4. Change your focus from near to far

The final exercise for eye health is working with your focus. This can help people who are far or nearsighted. So, this exercise is recommended for people with these conditions, even if they don’t have problems with their eyes at work.

  • Focus far away.  Look at an object, person or something that is far away. Then bring your focus back to where you started.
  • Focus close.  Start by looking around without focusing on anything in particular, then focus on something up close. For example, a dust, a small ant or a piece of skin near your nail.

All of these exercises help to reduce eye pressure, improve your vision and allow our eyes to relax when they need it from time to time.

We can also make these exercises a routine and do them during every break at work. Your sight will thank you for it.
